What is Frozen Shoulder and How Can You Cure It

How I got Frozen Shoulder

About eighteen months ago I had the misfortune to develop frozen shoulder syndrome in both my shoulders at the same time.  It is amazing how you take your shoulders so much for granted until something goes wrong with them.  Your arms hang off them, they are good for opening doors and hanging a bag on if you go out for the day.  In actual fact they are a feat of natural engineering, the most complex joint in the body and you use them all the time.

I developed a blood clot in the back of my left knee.  My frozen shoulders came about as a result of a drugg treatment for the blood clot.  This isn't very common but I was unfortunate enough to be one of the few that it happens to.  And not just one but both shoulders at the same time.

Getting Dressed was Impossible

Try getting dressed when you can't lift either arm much above shoulder height.  Not easy.  Shrugging a coat on is impossible without help.  Driving was impossible, even feeding myself demanded a change in the way that I was used to. Sleep was next to impossible.   It was probably the worst thing that has ever happened to me and I seriously would not wish it on my worst enemy.  Well........

I Must Thank my Wife

I spent about twelve months struggling with this, going through the painful stage, seriously thinking of stopping the drug treatment despite the risks to my health.  My shoulders gradually became stiffer and stiffer.  We had to cancel a long awaited trip overseas.  Without my wife's support I would have been in serious trouble.

I had steroid injections and started physical therapy to try and regain some of the movement in my shoulders but the progress was incredibly slow and painful.  I hadn't injured my shoulders and couldn't understand what was taking so long to sort out.

Another Two Years

In desperation I turned to the internet and started researching to see what I could do.  I found out a great deal about the condition but little that offered me much hope.  Everyone seemed to be saying that this was going to take anything up to another two years to sort out.  I think I would have gone mad by then!

But I didn't have to wait that long.

At Last A Solution

I came across a chap called Brian Schiff.  He is a qualified Physical Therapist and Exercise Coach in the USA and amongst other things he has put together a programme of exercises specifically for frozen shoulder.
The culmination of many years spent working with shoulder sufferers.
I had nothing to lose apart from a bit of time so I signed up to the programme.  It was in an easy to download format so I was reading it about two minutes after signing up for it and I am so glad that I did.

Almost immediately the pain was reduced, I was able to start sleeping again.  With the exercises my movement started to return.  I could see progress almost from the start and it continued as the weeks passed.  At last there was light at the end of the tunnel and it wasn't a train rushing towards me.
